Windows 7 pro upgrade question?

i have a couple questions i am upgrading from xp to 7 pro i bought the softwar of of ebay and instead of sending a cd and coa the guy sent a product key and link to download the software is this safe also i do not have my drivers recovery cd allthough i do have a cd with my drivers on it but it is not a bootable cd somebody please give me some intelligent input please
