Was Reaganomics really THAT great?

Reagan declared that economically speaking, the United States was experiencing a “second American revolution,” in which the new economic policies we call “Reaganomics” brought unprecedented prosperity and growth. But if Reaganomics was supposed to be so great, why were there so many lay offs during the Reagan era?
