How do you make a lava lamp?

I really want to make a legit lava lamp. I am not talking about the stupid little ones you can make with Alka Seltzer. I'm talking about the old school kind. Can anyone help me out? Please keep in mind I am not a chemistry major either so keep it stupid simple if ya can.
